Joe Thrash
Trustee | Austin, TexasJoe Thrash is a native Texan, born in Beaumont, raised in Houston, and a resident of Austin since 1968. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in government. After two years in the United States Army, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas School of Law.
Following law school, he worked for agencies of the State of Texas for 42 years, including the Comptroller of Public Accounts, Lieutenant Governor’s Office, the Governor’s Office, and, for the last 21 years of his career, with the Office of the Attorney General. As an Assistant Attorney General, he represented a number of state agencies, including the Texas Historical Commission, in both general counsel and litigation roles. He retired from the state in 2016. Since retiring, he has volunteered with Foundation Communities and is Treasurer of the AFSCME Retired State Employees Union. Mr. Thrash is married to Kay Trostle and has two grown daughters.
